Garage Door Prices: Practical vs. Classy Door

Garage door prices are currently in the range of $300 to $3,000. Some homeowners opt for regular doors, which serve well to protect the house from winds and intruders. Other homeowners opt for doors that also look classy, such as custom-built wood doors. It's up to each particular homeowner, whether they need a practical or a visually appealing door, however, the price range between such doors is quite wide. No matter what type of door you choose, if you can install the door on your own or with the aid of your friends and family, the total costs will drop by as much as a half.

Garage Door Installation - How To Avoid The Headache Of Installing It Yourself

Bare with me, I'm going to go on a little rant. The other day I overheard a guy complaining about the price of installation for a high-end garage door he was going to buy for his home. This totally boggled my mind.

Here he is about to buy a top-of-the-line, custom build garage door. He had a cool corrugated steel looking sectional door that I would've died to have. I really like steel more than wood because it just looks cooler and requires less maintenance. If you get a wood door, you have to continually perform maintenance to prevent any cracking or warping of the wood as it ages.

Anyway, this guys door cost around $3,500 and he was hassling about a $400 installation. Maybe he is an expert handyman, but I would've gladly paid the money and not have to worry about installing a heavy steel door. Some people like a challenge, but I can think of many other fun things to do that involve me sweating and struggling to install a garage door.

Garage Door Repair - Common Issues of Different Garage Door Types

Garage door repair requires a different approach depending on the type of a particular door. It's important to note the type of your garage door, such as a sectional roll-up door or one piece tilt-up door, in order to get a better picture of what could be the problem. Most common sectional roll-up garage door issues include: door wheels bound in guides or tracks, bent tracks or guides, impaired door system, crimped or buckled door panels, failed retraction springs, and loss of electrical power in the door hoists. Most common one piece tilt-up door repair issues include: problem with the door opener, worn out extension springs and/or hinges, and gaps around the door.
